What part of the plant is used medicinally, and how is it prepared?
The entire plant (whole herb) of Thesium chinense is used medicinally in TCM. The herb is typically harvested in summer and autumn when the plant is in full bloom, then washed, dried in the sun or shade, and cut into segments for use. In traditional preparation methods, Bai Rui Cao is most commonly decocted in water and taken as a tea or soup. The typical decoction involves simmering 15-30 grams of dried herb in water for 20-30 minutes. It can also be used in topical preparations for skin conditions, where the decoction is applied as a wash or compress. In modern practice, it is also available in granule, tablet, and capsule forms. The whole herb preparation preserves the full spectrum of flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolic acids.
