Outside of China, huperzine A is not approved by the FDA or EMA for any therapeutic indication. Pre-clinical studies continue to investigate its neuroprotective mechanisms, including effects on oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, and amyloid-beta toxicity. However, these findings do not constitute evidence for clinical efficacy, and the narrow therapeutic window and toxicity risks remain significant concerns.
