(PMID: 38509538) investigated the phytochemical composition and antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic activities of different extracts from C. equisetifolia needles, reporting that the methanolic extract exhibited the highest total phenolic and flavonoid content and the most potent cytotoxic activity against HepG-2 and HCT-116 cancer cell lines. A 2013 study by El-Tantawy et al. (PMID: 24249970) evaluated the nephroprotective effect of C. equisetifolia leaf extract against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats, reporting that the extract attenuated oxidative stress and restored renal function. A 2007 study by Prakash et al. (PMID: 17415953) reported that C. equisetifolia bark exhibited strong free radical scavenging activity and contained significant levels of ellagic acid, gallic acid, and quercetin. A 2022 study by Aboulthana et al. (PMID: 36308372) performed metabolite profiling of C. equisetifolia bark and assessed its biological activity after incorporating gold nanoparticles. Importantly, none of these studies constitute robust human clinical trials, and the findings should not be interpreted as evidence for clinical efficacy in treating any specific disease.
